Since its premiere in 2015, the KTO Theatre’s travelling street performance Peregrinus has visited nearly 60 festivals on three continents.
It has been presented in the programme inaugurating the St. Petersburg Theatre Olympics and the 375th anniversary of Montreal, at the EXPO in Milan, at festivals in New York, Seoul, Tbilisi, Vilnius, Tehran, London, Beijing, Kyiv, Budapest, Chalon-sur-Saône, Tarrega, Sibiu, Freiburg, on the exotic Japanese island of Okinawa and in Arkhangelsk.
Inspired by the poetry of T. S. Eliot, the performance by Jerzy Zon (script, direction and music) shows a day in the life of a contemporary everyman. In an impressive form with costumes and set design by Joanna Jaśko-Sroka and choreography by Eryk Makohon, it exposes – with a dose of pain and grotesque – the traps of the contemporary world in which we allow ourselves to be caught.
PEREGRINUS. EXHIBITION II is the next part of the photo project which Bartek Cieniawa, KTO Theatre’s actor, has been carrying out for the past six years.
“Nine characters in identical, expressive masks with empty eye sockets, in the face of stony, urban surroundings, also when these are recreational areas with superhuman office towers in the background –
the clash between the surrounding architecture and the architecture of the masks is disturbing. It introduces us into the scaled world of global corporate deadness (…)
Joanna Jaśko- Sroka’s costumes juxtaposed by Bartek Cieniawa’s photographs with locations from journeys build an annexe to Jerzy Zoń’s show and creates a parallel, separate, authorial paratheatrical installation with narration read through photographic stop-frames (…),” wrote Joanna Braun in the text accompanying the first part of the project.
Join us at the Podgórski Square for the opening of the exhibition and the performance of Peregrinus on Monday, the 17th of May, at 5 p.m. The closing of the exhibition, also with the participation of Peregrinuses, will take place on Wednesday, the 2nd of June, at 5 p.m.
