28th edition

9-12 July 2015

International Festival of Street Theatres

From the 9th to the 12th of July 2015, the KTO Theatre will organise the 28th International Festival of Street Theatres – ULICA.
This year’s edition of the festival focuses on the Clown as a phenomenon, hence its title "The Clown - God's Anointed One".

During the four days of theatre festivities taking place at the most beautiful outdoor venues in Krakow (The Main Square, Small Square, Szczepanski Square), an audience of up to 100,000 will attend street performances, giant open-air shows, solo acts, ballet productions and clown stunts – over 80 theatre events in total.

Top masters of clownery, such as Leo Bassi, Jango Edwards, Aziz Gual, Paul Morocco, Claire Ducreux, Loco Brusca, Company 1Watt and Pinezka the Clown will demonstrate their amazing skills.

Spectators will also have some opportunities to meet the legendary creators of this theatre style. Pierre Ètaix, Slava Polunin, Jango Edwards and Leo Bassi will tell them about their work, reveal the secrets of acting techniques and share their reflections on contemporary trends in clownery.

The programme of theatre events will be supplemented by film shows, taking place at Kino Pod Baranami and presenting masterpieces of world cinema with the Clown as the lead.
There will also be a publication explaining the main aspects of the art of clownery, released for this occasion: "The Clown - God’s Anointed One", a richly illustrated book, will soon be available in bookshops.

Several shows presented on the stage located in the house of Teatr Zależny (The Dependent Theatre), very special in character, will familiarise the audience with the phenomenon of "the contemporary Polish comedian, jester and clown".

A Belgian street band comprising brass and percussion instruments, Orchestre International du Vetex, will comment upon the events taking place in the street with energetic music and sharp humour.

The opening ceremony will be performed by Theater TOL from Belgium and includes a spectacular aerial show (over the Town Hall Tower) and the closing ceremony of ULICA by the French artists of Cie Underclouds, with their show "Funambus".

A detailed programme of the Festival is available soon! Consider yourself invited!
