Peregrinus - The KTO Theatre

Trailer of the show NIGHT

A wandering theatre show without words

A theatre production inspired by poetic works of T.S. Eliot.

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

by Thomas Sterns Eliot

The show depicts a single day in the life of an individual of the 21st century. The contemporary "Everyman", whose life is "suspended" between Home and Work for a corporation, identifies his or her "pathway through life" as a "pathway to work".
The peregrination in search of the meaning of life comes into view through everyday toil, deprived of spirituality, love and beauty.
The world of the "Pererginus" is a "digital" civilization – sad, terrifying and grotesque, where consumerism turns into a dominant religion. A shop window is the home of the Peregrinus of the 21st century.
A mobile character of the show exposes the adventures of the protagonist in various contexts of urban space. Homo Peregrinus is a formatted human being stripped of emotionality, predictable and bereft of individual characteristics.

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper

T.S. Eliot

The show has been presented in many cities in Poland as well as in Canada, China, Croatia, England, France, Georgia, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Romania (Tony Bulandra Award for the best street performance in Targoviste), Russia, Spain and USA.

Jerzy Zoń is very adept at juggling conventions and linking grotesque elements with a philosophical view of the problems of a contemporary human being and the world. At the same time he is very skilful at rendering the quite problematic nature and situation of each character. Heads overflow with sounds. (...) So, how can we communicate just who we are so as to be well-understood for once? The image created in Zoń's spectacle evokes ambivalent feelings - from laughter through pity to horror and aversion.
"Peregrinus" appears to be a black comedy where humour mingles with horror and the grotesque with realism. It is a tale about fears, frustrations and the feeling of loss of a 21st-century human being - delivered in an offbeat, metaphorical way. The show is marked by splendid acting as a group and the director's original thinking.
