“Café Müller” by Pina Bausch is a story about loneliness, isolation, unrequited love, mourning and despair. It’s a stirring show, as it raises topics close to everyone. Iconic, as on its basis you can explain what Tanztheater is. Unique because it featured Pina herself.

“My Café Müller is a fanficiton. Based on the already existing spectacle, its world and characters, I create images referring to my own history. Born in Iserlohn, a small town in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, and raised in Poland, I’ve been asking myself for some time: what if my parents had not decided to return to their home country? Looking for answers, I let my imagination run wild and created hypothetical scenarios, traveling around Germany, around my hometown, studying the German language and meeting Polish artists who live there. The play, however, is not a story about what could have happened. This is not an attempt to create an alternative resume, but to share the emotions that accompanied me when I once again asked myself the question, what if?” Says Dominik Wiecek.
