From September 8th to 14th, let us invite all the lovers of modern and progressive theatre, where words are minimized, to a celebration of art that draws from the finest traditions and practices, closely aligned with our theatre and the poetic physical theatre of Jerzy Zoń.

The idea of this festival, a review, a confrontation, an invitation to captivating performances, arose from our profound yearning as organizers to partake in such shows. It is often accepted that classical theatre is rooted in drama, a quintessential product of bourgeois culture. It has evolved over millennia to ride the horse named prosperity in gilded boxes. We have become accustomed to sitting in these gilded boxes, watching actors deliver texts to usobserves Jerzy Zoń, director of KTO Theatre.

The 1st edition of the Body and Time Festival, during which KTO Theatre will open its space to showcase the most intriguing theatrical phenomena, aims at continuing the tradition of a theatre open to the world, a path KTO has pursued since its inception in Krakow’s Podgórze district.

We aspire to celebrate the diversity encapsulated within theatre. Once more, we wish to boldly proclaim “let’s see” and confront theatre practitioners and audiences with art that is not necessarily verbalsays Sławomir Szczurek, curator of the Body and Time Festival.

Additionally, we embrace new, young, and debuting creators. The festival included an open call for submissions to the competitive performance section. On stage, we will present eight performances selected from nearly eighty submissions. We can already assure you: it will be exceptionally diverse, mesmerizing, and surprising!

The competitive performances will be judged by a panel including: Dominika Knapik, Maciej “Gąsiu” Gośniowski, Joanna Braun, and Bartek Cieniawa.

An important part of the program will also be the masterful performances. We will showcase two productions awarded the St. Wyspiański Theatre Prize: “Szekspirie” by Krakow Dance Theatre (concept, direction, set design, and choreography by Eryk Makohon) and “Arcadia” by KTO Theatre (script and direction by Jerzy Zoń, choreography by Eryk Makohon). On the KTO stage, you will also see the performance “WoW” by a performer, choreographer, and dancer Marta Wołowiec, who will also conduct her master class workshops during the festival.

On September 15th, remaining in the post-festival spirit, we are invite the audience to “Very Cheap” – the final part of the theatrical trilogy by the duo Gruba i Głupia (Patrycja Kowańska and Dominika Knapik), following “Very Funny” and “Very Sad.”

The Body and Time Festival also features engaging discussion panels, lectures, and a variety of other accompanying events.

We will announce the detailed festival program and ticket sales date soon.
