The countdown has begun! With great excitement, we announce that we have started rehearsals for a large-scale premiere as part of the Spaces of Art – Dance program, organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance. The premiere of the performance “Plague” is scheduled for June, but we already invite you to follow the preparations.
„Plague” is a story based on a 13th-century German legend, later written down by the Brothers Grimm as “The Pied Piper of Hamelin.” The legend tells of a plague of rats that descends upon a town. Driven by hunger and disease, the inhabitants of Hamelin accept the help of a mysterious Piper, who promises to get them free of the rodents.
The performance, while telling the same story, transforms it into a parabolic tale about the contemporary world, in which societies increasingly entrust their fate to charismatic populists. In order to rule, however, they need an enemy — real or imagined. In “Plague,” that enemy is rats, but it could just as easily be migrants, minorities, or people with different views… The struggle against this Baumanesque “Other” comes at a cost — freedom, taken away slowly, piece by piece. To ease the discomfort, sweet propaganda flows from the magic flute.
