On the May holiday (May 1 and 2 at 5:00 PM), we invite you to the garden of Teatr KTO for a unique concert of Bertolt Brecht songs from the performance “Bertolt Brecht. You Teach Us How to Lift Skirts.”.
We guarantee a celebration unlike any other. Outdoors, surrounded by greenery, with a glass of wine and delicious snacks, and with music that can move, amuse, and pierce the heart at the same time.
The May holiday in the Teatr KTO garden is a meeting with Brecht at his finest. This recital naturally intertwines with the tradition of May Day, addressing themes of poverty, social inequality, and human dignity. Brecht’s songs—precise, ironic, and uncompromising—give voice to the excluded and tell stories of systemic injustice. They are the songs of working women, mothers, women forced into compromise, people pushed to the margins. They are songs about revolution born from a lack of bread, but also from the need for respect. A musical commentary on a world in which work does not always mean security, and poverty is not a choice. A world that can (and should) be changed.
The performance by Józef Opalski, “Bertolt Brecht. You Teach Us How to Lift Skirts,” from which the songs are taken, looks at the struggle for survival and subjectivity from a female perspective. At the center of the recital are women entangled in economic dependencies, reminding us that basic dignity is the result of struggle, not an obvious historical fact. In the May setting of the garden, these songs will sound especially powerful!
The garden will open half an hour before the concert so that we can begin the celebration together. Guests will be welcomed with wine, atmospheric music, and a true theatrical May Day ambiance. After the performance, we invite you to refreshments and a gathering in the garden. We want the garden space to become a place for exchanging ideas, inspiring conversations, and thoughtful entertainment.
Spring in Podgórze, the Teatr KTO garden, and Brecht under the open sky—there is hardly a more beautiful way to begin May!
